The National Centre for Tumour Diseases draws patients from all over southern Germany – from the Brenz valley too. It is about two and a half hours from here. Brenz Taxi takes you there, waits on site and brings you back the same day.

Two and a half hours, and still often the right choice
Nobody travels to Heidelberg by chance. It is about second opinions, clinical trials and procedures available nowhere else in Baden-Württemberg. If you are already facing the strain of an examination, you should not have to spend a day on railway platforms on top of it.
What we go through with you before the ride
Over this distance you do not book, you plan. On the phone we go through what will carry the day:
- Departure time – we work backwards from the appointment and fix the break at the same time.
- Who comes along. A companion costs nothing, we only want to know in advance.
- Whether it turns into one day or two. Some people prefer an overnight stay to ten hours in one go.
- Exactly where we stop. The Neuenheimer Feld has house numbers running past 600 – we need yours.
Does my insurer pay for a trip to Heidelberg?
The principle is: to the nearest suitable place of treatment. If the treatment you need is available only there – and with specialist centres that is often the case – then Heidelberg is precisely that place.
- Hospital admission and discharge: reimbursable without prior approval, regardless of the distance.
- Outpatient appointment: requires approval, with a justification. We obtain the approval and write the justification as well.
- Co-payment: 10 per cent of the fare, at least 5 and at most 10 euros per trip. Children under 18 pay nothing.
- Billing: directly with your health insurer. You pay nothing up front.
- If it is refused you hear it from us beforehand, not from the invoice. We then talk about a fixed price.
- Stays of several days: The outward and return journeys are prescribed and billed separately. We note both at your first call.

What we do and what we do not
Seated transport, luggage and aids included. We take a rollator and a folding wheelchair along and load them ourselves. If you stay seated in your wheelchair, the trip runs through our partner firm – you simply register it with us.
Driving time – from your town
Guide figures without traffic, from the centre of town and via the motorway. The right-hand column is our departure time: driving time plus ten minutes. On routes over two hours we also plan a break and agree the departure with you personally beforehand.

How long does the trip from Heidenheim to Heidelberg take?
About 2 hours 22 minutes for roughly 215 kilometres. We set off from your door about 2 hours 30 minutes before the appointment, with a break on the way.
Does my health insurer pay for a trip to Heidelberg?
If that is where the treatment takes place and it is not possible any closer, yes. Outpatient appointments need approval – we obtain it and set out the reasons.
Do you drive to the NCT or to proton therapy as well?
Yes. Both are in the Neuenheimer Feld. Give us the house number from your appointment letter and we will stop at the right entrance.
Do you stop for a break on the way?
Yes, always on this route. When and for how long is up to you.
And what if I have to stay overnight?
Then the outward and return journeys are prescribed separately. We book the collection as soon as the discharge date is settled.
