Freiburg is the furthest address we drive to regularly: a good three hours via the A8 and the A5. Brenz Taxi takes you to Hugstetter Straße – to the specialist clinic, the tumour centre or for inpatient admission, in one car and with breaks whenever you need them.
The destination at a glance
Three hours is a planning exercise, not a journey
Over this distance a lot is decided beforehand: when we set off, where we stop, whether the appointment can be fitted into a single day and who is coming along. We go through that on the phone before anything is booked – so you know a week in advance what your day will look like.
Three hours in the car – what that means
- At least one break. When and for how long is decided by you on the way, not by us beforehand.
- Seat position and temperature we set up for you. Over a journey this long that is no small matter.
- No changes, no connecting train, no risk. A cancelled train costs you the appointment.
- A companion travels free of charge. We only need to know in advance who is coming along.
- We book the return pick-up as well, as soon as the discharge date is set.
Who pays – the honest part
Your insurer does not pay for a trip of this length because you would like to go there, but because the treatment is not available any closer. With a centre like the one in Freiburg that is often the case, but it stands or falls with the justification on the application – and we write that.
- Muster 4 form from your doctor. Counted separately for the outward and return trip if you stay overnight.
- Approval only for outpatient appointments. Admission and discharge need none.
- Co-payment: 10 per cent of the fare, at least 5 and at most 10 euros per trip. Children under 18 pay nothing.
- Billing: directly with your health insurer. You pay nothing up front.
- Day trip or overnight stay: Six to seven hours of pure driving in one day is a lot. We will tell you frankly if we think splitting it makes more sense.

Where we stop, plainly put
We transport seated. A rollator or a folding wheelchair comes along as a matter of course, and we load and unload it ourselves. If you cannot leave your wheelchair, call us anyway: we have a partner firm for that and organise the trip, so you do not have to keep searching yourself.

How long does the trip from Giengen to Freiburg take?
About 3 hours 13 minutes for roughly 315 kilometres via the A8 and the A5, plus a break. We agree the exact departure time beforehand.
Does my health insurer pay for a trip of over 300 kilometres?
If that is where the treatment takes place and it is not possible any closer, yes. Outpatient appointments need an approval with a justification – we take care of that.
Can I manage the trip there and back in one day?
Technically yes, but that is over six hours in the car. We will tell you frankly if we think it is too much, and talk through the alternatives.
Do you take breaks on the way?
Yes, at least one. When and for how long is entirely up to you.
Can my wife travel the whole way with me?
Yes, free of charge. We only want to know in advance that she is coming along.
