Patient transport to Frankfurt University Hospital

Two motorways, one car, no changes
Of the roughly 275 kilometres, about 258 are motorway: 134 kilometres on the A7 towards Würzburg, then 124 kilometres west on the A3 to Frankfurt. Only the first and the last minutes run on country roads and through the city. That makes the arrival time predictable – and the journey far simpler than the train, which means changing at least once from here.
A ride you can plan around
- An early start is no problem. If your appointment is in the morning, we set off in the middle of the night. We agree the departure time with you personally beforehand.
- A break is built in. Over this distance we stop on the way – for you and for the driver.
- We stay on site. Driving home in between would make no sense over this distance – we wait, however long it takes.
- If you stay overnight, we plan the return as a separate journey. Just let us know when you are discharged.
- A companion costs nothing. Please still let us know in advance that someone is coming along.
- Luggage for an inpatient stay come along as a matter of course.
Prescription, approval, co-payment
Long journeys follow the same rules as short ones – the reasoning simply matters more. What counts is always the nearest suitable place of treatment. The fact that Frankfurt is far away is no argument against it if the treatment there is not available closer to home. That is exactly what has to be stated on the prescription.
- You need a Muster 4 form from the referring or treating practice – stating why the treatment takes place in Frankfurt.
- For outpatient appointments your insurer approves in advance. We obtain the approval from your health insurer for you.
- For inpatient admission and discharge no approval is needed at all.
- Co-payment: 10 per cent of the fare, at least 5 and at most 10 euros per trip. Children under 18 pay nothing.
- Billing: directly with your health insurer. You pay nothing up front.

What we drive – and what we do not
- Seated passengers. A folding wheelchair and a rollator come along.
- If you have to stay in your wheelchair, we arrange the trip through our partner firm – one call to us is enough.
- We do not carry out stretcher transports or carry-chair transfers down stairs.

How long does the journey from Heidenheim to Frankfurt take?
About 2 hours 44 minutes for roughly 275 kilometres via the A7 and the A3. We set off from your door just under three hours before the appointment and stop once on the way.
Can you set off very early in the morning?
Yes. If your appointment in Frankfurt is in the morning, we start at night. We fix the exact departure time together beforehand.
Will my health insurer cover the journey to Frankfurt?
For inpatient admission and discharge without approval, for outpatient appointments with. What matters is the reason on the prescription explaining why the treatment is not possible closer to home. We obtain the approval for you.
Do you wait there, or do you drive back?
We wait, however long it takes. If you stay in hospital overnight, we plan the return separately – just get in touch when you are discharged.
I am insured in Baden-Württemberg and travelling to Hesse. Is that a problem?
No. The federal state makes no difference to reimbursement.
