The closer hospital for Königsbronn, Steinheim and Nattheim
Sixteen kilometres from Königsbronn, twenty-three from Steinheim. From the north of the district Aalen is not only closer than Ulm but also more reliable to reach – the B19 rarely jams, and on the hospital grounds you park right by the building.
- One address for several departments. If you need radiotherapy and the outpatient clinic as well, you only travel once here.
- Discharge at no notice. Call when the paperwork is ready – we work around the ward's routine.
- Luggage and mobility aids we load and unload. That is part of the trip, not an optional extra.
- Accompanied inside. It depends on how you are feeling – it is needed more often than people think, and it costs nothing extra.
- A companion travels free of charge. We only need to know in advance who is coming along.
- District borders do not matter. The fact that Aalen is in the Ostalb district and you live in the Heidenheim district makes no difference to reimbursement.
Admission, discharge, outpatient clinic – three different trips
The three cases look the same from where you stand, but your insurer treats them differently. So that you know where you stand:
Admission and discharge
Inpatient, meaning with an overnight stay. Your insurer covers the trip without prior approval. All you need is a Muster 4 form – on discharge the ward issues it.
Outpatient appointment
Consultation, check-up, examination. This trip is only reimbursable in exceptional cases and needs approval. Ask us beforehand – we will tell you frankly whether it applies in your case.
Who pays for the trip to hospital?
- Hospital admission and discharge: Your insurer covers the trip without it having to be approved in advance.
- Prescription: Form Muster 4. For the discharge trip the ward issues the form – ask for it before you clear your room.
- Co-payment: 10 per cent of the fare, at least 5 and at most 10 euros per trip. Children under 18 pay nothing.
- Billing: directly with your health insurer. You pay nothing up front.
- Just an outpatient appointment? Then an exceptional reason and an approval are needed. Call us and we will tell you whether that applies in your case.

What we do and what we do not
Seated transport, luggage and aids included. We take a rollator and a folding wheelchair along and load them ourselves. If you stay seated in your wheelchair, the trip runs through our partner firm – you simply register it with us.

Frequently asked questions
How long does the trip from Steinheim to the Ostalb-Klinikum take?
About 25 minutes for 23.1 kilometres. We pull up at your door 35 minutes before your appointment.
Why Aalen and not Heidenheim?
Because some departments exist only there – and because from Königsbronn or Nattheim it is simply the shorter route. We drive both.
Does my insurer cover the trip into the Ostalb district?
Yes. What counts is the treatment, not the district. For inpatient admission and discharge no approval is needed.
Can you take me to the pharmacy after discharge?
A short stop on the way can usually be arranged. Tell us when you call and we will build it in.
Do you also drive to Aalen on Saturdays?
Yes, on Saturdays from 09:00. Earlier times by prior arrangement.
