Patient transport to Campus Nord Ulm – orthopaedics, neurology and rehabilitation
Since the beginning of 2026 the RKU has been called Universitätsklinikum Ulm – Campus Nord. Orthopaedics, neurological rehabilitation, sports medicine and psychiatry are all there at Oberer Eselsberg 45. From Niederstotzingen it is 31 minutes, from Giengen 32. Brenz Taxi takes you there, over weeks of outpatient rehabilitation as well.
The destination at a glance
Outpatient rehabilitation means going back again and again
Follow-up rehabilitation after a stroke or joint surgery often runs for weeks, several times a week, and affects people who for that very reason cannot drive themselves. This is not a single trip, it is a series – and that is how we plan it.
- Your appointments are in our schedule. Agreed once, then no more phone calls.
- After a stroke or an operation getting in and out takes time. We take that time, and we bring your walking aid or rollator along.
- We wait. Blocks of therapy drag on, especially when several treatments follow one after another.
- We come inside with you, if you would like that or you are not feeling well that day – as far as the reception desk, and into the waiting room if need be.
- A companion costs nothing. Please still let us know in advance that someone is coming along.
- The name has changed, the route has not. If your appointment letter still says RKU, the same place is meant.
Costs for rehab and follow-up care
- Follow-up rehabilitation: Whether the health insurer or the pension fund pays depends on who approved the rehabilitation. We clear that up in advance and obtain the approval.
- Outpatient rehab: The trips are part of the programme. Whoever is paying normally covers them as well.
- Hospital admission and discharge: covered by your health insurer without approval.
- Co-payment: 10 per cent of the fare, at least 5 and at most 10 euros per trip. Children under 18 pay nothing.
- Billing: directly with your health insurer. You pay nothing up front.

What we do and what we do not
Seated transport, luggage and aids included. We take a rollator and a folding wheelchair along and load them ourselves. If you stay seated in your wheelchair, the trip runs through our partner firm – you simply register it with us.

Frequently asked questions
Is the RKU still the RKU?
The place is the same: Oberer Eselsberg 45. Since January 2026 the building has belonged entirely to Ulm University Hospital and is called Campus Nord. We take you there whichever name appears on your appointment letter.
How long does the trip from Giengen to Campus Nord take?
About 32 minutes for 43.2 kilometres. We pull up at your door 40 minutes before your appointment.
I have outpatient rehabilitation three times a week. Do you drive that?
Yes, that is exactly what we are set up for. You tell us the series once and after that we are simply there.
Does the pension fund pay or the health insurer?
That depends on who approved your rehabilitation. Tell us who the decision came from and we will take care of the rest.
Can you collect me after knee surgery?
Yes. Let us know as soon as the discharge date is settled; the time of day can stay open.
